The Witcher 3 Gets Final Patch, Console Mods in 2025

Oct 22,25

The Witcher 3 is set to receive another major update in late 2025, introducing groundbreaking cross-platform mod support that will bring mods to consoles for the first time ever.

CD Projekt Red revealed this upcoming patch as part of The Witcher 3's 10th anniversary celebrations. The update will enable seamless mod sharing across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms later this year. "This marks a revolutionary moment where creating, sharing, and enjoying mods becomes fully accessible to all Wild Hunt players," stated CD Projekt Red.

The cross-platform functionality will be implemented through an official game update. Players will need to link their mod.io account with their CD Projekt Red account to access this feature. Traditional PC modding methods will remain available - the mod.io integration is only mandatory for console players wanting to experience community creations.

Important caveat: While console players can enjoy mods, mod creation will remain PC-exclusive through tools like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt REDkit.

This substantial update breathes new life into the decade-old RPG, which continues maintaining impressive player numbers and cultural relevance years after launch.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has now surpassed 60 million cumulative sales, encompassing both base game and Game of the Year editions (excluding separate expansion sales). This achievement places it neck-and-neck with Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which Todd Howard confirmed had crossed 60 million copies in a June 2023 IGN interview - potentially creating a tie for the best-selling RPG crown.

CD Projekt's co-CEO Adam Badowski reflected on this milestone:

"Geralt's third adventure represents a turning point for our studio. Beyond its hundreds of awards and critical acclaim, the game delivered unforgettable experiences to millions worldwide. With over 60 million copies sold, The Witcher 3 stands among history's greatest games - and inspires us as we develop the next trilogy in this beloved universe."

This forward-looking statement references the highly anticipated Witcher 4 (currently codenamed Polaris), which has entered full production with 422 of CD Projekt's 730 developers dedicated to the project. The earliest projected release window remains 2027.
