Developer FLINT announced on January 20th that a language support adjustment, effective after the January 23rd maintenance, will remove English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian dubbing. This change aims to improve localization quality and game stability. Support for Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian will remain.

While English text will remain, in-game voiceovers will switch to Japanese for players outside Korea. FLINT assures players this change won't affect in-game chat functionality in any of the removed languages. They state their commitment to providing better service and experiences.

ASTRA isn't alone in this decision. Several other gacha games have also reduced or removed English voice-over support, including:

  • War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: Square Enix removed English voiceovers for new content starting May 2024, prioritizing Japanese. Existing content retains English dubbing.

  • Aether Gazer: Yostar Games removed all English voiceovers in February 2024 due to financial constraints, reallocating resources to gameplay, performance, and future content.

  • Snowbreak: Containment Zone: Amazing Seasun Games removed English voiceovers in December 2023, citing an evaluation of player preferences and the pursuit of optimal gaming experience. Japanese voiceovers replaced them starting with Version 1.4.

These decisions often stem from prioritizing the language preferred by the majority of players or managing resource allocation. Long-term gacha game development requires significant investment in voice acting, and shifting resources to other aspects of the game can ensure its longevity and continued improvement.
