Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Directed Mode Has Been Huge for Zombies
Activision has revealed that the introduction of Directed mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has significantly boosted player engagement with the main quest. While survival remains a key focus for many in the Zombies mode, Directed mode has shifted the spotlight onto the narrative aspect of the game.
Since the inception of Zombies mode in Call of Duty: World at War, the mode has evolved with a rich, expanding storyline. This trend continues with Black Ops 6, despite a slight dip in the overall player base since its launch. Zombies mode retains a dedicated community, drawn to its challenging wave-based gameplay where players fend off increasingly tough enemies. Traditionally, this has led many to prioritize enhancing their weapons and defenses over delving into the story. However, the introduction of Zombies Directed mode in the Season 1 update has changed this dynamic, proving popular among players.
According to a recent Call of Duty blog post, Directed mode has doubled the main quest completion rate in Black Ops 6 Zombies, rising from 4% to 8.23%. This impressive statistic is derived from 480 million hours of gameplay, with a notable portion logged since Directed mode's debut on November 14. Treyarch's goal with Directed mode was to encourage more players to engage with the main quest, and the doubling of completion rates is seen as a clear success. Yet, with over 90% of players still not completing the main quest, Treyarch is committed to further enhancing player engagement.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode Made Major Improvements in One Key Area
Zombies' Directed mode, introduced in the Season 1 update alongside three new maps and two new game modes, offers a structured path for players to follow the Zombies storyline. The Zombies narrative, which has grown to include complex elements like interdimensional portals, zero-point energy, time travel, and teleportation, can be daunting for newcomers. Directed mode simplifies this journey, guiding players through the story in a way that previous installments did not.
With Directed mode, more Zombies enthusiasts are now completing the main quest than ever before. As Treyarch continues to refine Black Ops 6, future updates to Zombies and Directed mode are expected to further enhance the main quest completion rates, ensuring an even more immersive experience for players.
