Get ready for an exciting update in the world of Rainbow Six Siege! The Closed Beta for Rainbow Six Siege X is now live, introducing the thrilling new 6v6 game mode, Dual Front. Dive in to discover everything you need to know about this innovative mode and the details of the closed beta test.
Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Unveiled Exciting Updates
Closed Beta Starts on March 13, 2025
Ubisoft has announced that the Closed Beta for Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) will run from March 13th at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET to March 19th at the same times. This beta phase kicks off right after the R6 Siege X Showcase event.
To participate in the R6 Siege X Closed Beta, fans can watch the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or through various Content Creators' Twitch livestreams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta will be accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Unfortunately, some players have reported not receiving the expected email with the beta access code. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve it and send out the codes promptly.
It's crucial to understand that R6 Siege X is not a new game but a significant update aimed at enhancing the game with graphical and technical improvements.
Introducing the New 6v6 Game Mode: Dual Front
Ubisoft has introduced Dual Front, a dynamic 6v6 game mode designed to bring foundational upgrades to the core gameplay. These enhancements include visual improvements, audio overhauls, rappel upgrades, and more, along with revamped player protection systems. This mode will also be free to access, allowing players to experience the tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege without any cost.
Dual Front will unfold on a new map called District, where two teams of six Operators will engage in battles to attack enemy sectors while simultaneously defending their own. This marks the first time in R6 that both attacking and defending Operators will be active at the same time, opening up new strategic possibilities and gadget combinations.
While Dual Front adds a fresh twist, the classic Siege mode remains, now referred to as "Core Siege" in the main menu. This mode includes modernized versions of five maps: Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe, featuring double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and enhanced destructible materials. Initially, only these five maps will be updated, with plans to modernize three more maps in future seasons.
Free Access Begins in Season 2 of Year 10
After a decade of being a paid game, Rainbow Six Siege will transition to a free-to-play model starting in Season 2 of Year 10. This move aligns with the trends seen among its major competitors, reflecting the shift towards live-service games since its 2015 launch.
During the R6 Siege X Showcase in Atlanta on March 13, Game Director Alexander Karpazis shared with PC Gamer that the team's goal is to introduce the game to new players. "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special," he explained. Karpazis emphasized that this move reduces the barrier to entry, especially when playing with friends enhances the Siege experience.
The free access will include game modes such as Unranked, Quick Play, and the new Dual Front. However, access to Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will require a paid premium subscription. This decision, as explained by former game director Leroy Athanassoff in a 2020 interview with PC Gamer, aims to deter smurfs and cheaters by ensuring a committed player base in the most competitive aspects of the game. Karpazis added, "It is, in our opinion, the best of both worlds where you can bring in new players but also have this place where veterans feel super competitive and committed to the game."
No Plans for Siege 2
Alexander Karpazis also revealed that the team has never considered creating a sequel, Siege 2, despite reaching its 10-year milestone. Unlike some of its FPS competitors, such as Overwatch 2 and Counter-Strike 2, R6 Siege has chosen to evolve the original game rather than launch a new one.
Karpazis stated, "Siege 2 was never on the table. A lot of live service games are starting to go through this process because a lot of them are hitting that 10-year mark." He emphasized that the focus has always been on what is best for Siege and its players. "When we go back in time three years ago, that was the main focus for us," he added.
The development of Siege X has been ongoing for about three years, alongside the game's regular seasonal updates. Karpazis explained that Siege X is designed to continue the experience players have enjoyed over the past decade and to make significant, meaningful changes to the game. "Siege X, for us, is a moment where we want to make big, meaningful changes to the game. We want to show that, yes, we're here for another 10 years, and we want to respect the people who brought us here so far," he said, underscoring the importance of the community to the game's success. "You don't get to 10 years as a live service game without the community that built you up."
Rainbow Six Siege X is slated for release on June 10, 2025, and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest news by checking out our Rainbow Six Siege article below!
