God of War Ragnarok's Steam Reviews Mixed Amid PSN Requirement Controversy

God of War Ragnarok's PC Steam release has ignited a firestorm of controversy, resulting in a "Mixed" user review score. Many fans are review-bombing the game due to Sony's controversial requirement to link a PlayStation Network (PSN) account.

Steam Review Bombing Over PSN Requirement

Launched last week, God of War Ragnarok currently holds a 6/10 user rating on Steam. The mandatory PSN account linkage, announced prior to release, has left many players frustrated and prompted the negative reviews.

While numerous negative reviews cite the PSN requirement, some players report successfully playing the game without linking an account. One user commented, "I understand the PSN anger; forcing online features into a single-player game is frustrating. But I played fine without logging in. These reviews unfairly hurt an amazing game."

Another review highlights technical issues potentially linked to the PSN requirement: "The PSN requirement ruined the experience. The game launched, I logged in, but it got stuck on a black screen. It registered 1 hour 40 minutes of playtime, which is absurd."

Despite the negative feedback, positive reviews praise the game's quality, attributing the negative scores solely to Sony's decision. One player stated, "Great story, as expected. The negative reviews are almost entirely about the PSN issue. Sony needs to address this; otherwise, the PC port is excellent."

This situation mirrors the backlash against Helldivers 2, another Sony title requiring PSN account linkage, which Sony ultimately reversed. Whether Sony will respond similarly to the God of War Ragnarok situation remains to be seen.
