Path of Exile 2: Burning Monolith Explained
The Burning Monolith: Accessing Path of Exile 2's Endgame Pinnacle Boss
The Burning Monolith, a unique map location in Path of Exile 2, resembles a Realmgate and is found near the starting area of your mapping journey. Accessing it, however, presents a significant challenge.
Unlocking the Burning Monolith
The Burning Monolith is the gateway to the endgame pinnacle boss, the Arbiter of Ash. Your first attempt to activate the Monolith's door initiates "The Pinnacle of Flame" quest, comprised of three sub-quests: Ezomyte Infiltration (Iron Citadel), Faridun Foray (Copper Citadel), and Vaal Incursion (Stone Citadel). Completing these Citadels yields three Crisis Fragments, essential for activating the Arbiter of Ash encounter. Combine the Fragments at the Monolith's altar to unlock the boss fight.
Prepare for a formidable opponent. The Arbiter of Ash is the game's most challenging pinnacle boss, boasting devastating attacks and immense health. Ensure your character build is optimized before engaging.
Locating the Citadels
Path of Exile 2 features three Citadels—Iron, Copper, and Stone—each guarded by a unique map boss. Defeating these bosses grants the corresponding Crisis Fragment. The primary difficulty lies in discovering their locations.
Citadel Attempts are Limited to One Per Citadel.
Due to the Atlas's randomized generation, Citadel locations vary across player experiences. While definitive strategies are lacking, community observations suggest:
- Directional Progression: Choose a direction on the Atlas and explore systematically until you locate a Citadel. Utilizing Towers provides a broader map overview.
- Corruption Tracking: Focus on Atlas nodes exhibiting corruption, clearing them efficiently and utilizing nearby Towers for reconnaissance.
- Clustered Appearance: Citadels often appear in close proximity. Finding one increases the likelihood of discovering the others nearby.
Citadel hunting is a late-game activity, best undertaken with a fully optimized build and substantial boss-fighting experience.
Alternative Acquisition of Crisis Fragments
Crisis Fragments, the ultimate objective of Citadel hunting, can be purchased via online trading platforms or the in-game Currency Exchange. However, their rarity results in a relatively high price, offering a viable alternative for players prioritizing efficiency over the challenge of hunting.
