Mancala games
This two-player board game app offers a collection of Mancala games, including Kalah, Oware, and Congkak. Players use seeds or counters on a board with six pits ("houses") on each side and a larger end zone ("store") at each end. The goal is to accumulate more seeds than your opponent.
The app features several Mancala game variations:
Kalah:
- Begin with four (or five to six) seeds in each house.
- Each player controls their six houses. Score is tracked in the store.
- Players take turns sowing seeds from a chosen house counter-clockwise, including their store but excluding their opponent's.
- If the last seed lands in an empty house and the opposite house is not empty, both are captured and added to the player's store.
- Landing the last seed in the player's store grants an extra turn.
- The game ends when one player has no seeds left; the other player collects remaining seeds, and the player with the most seeds wins.
Oware:
- Start with four (or five or six) seeds in each house. Score is in the player's store.
- Players sow seeds counter-clockwise from a chosen house, excluding the store and the starting house. If a house initially holds 12 or more seeds, the 12th seed is placed in the next house.
- Capture occurs when the last sown seed brings an opponent's house to exactly two or three seeds. This captures those seeds, and potentially more, working backward until a house with a different number or belonging to the player is reached.
- If an opponent has no seeds, the player must make a move that gives the opponent seeds. If impossible, the player captures all their seeds, ending the game.
- The game ends when one player captures over half the seeds, or both players have half (a draw).
Version 1.4.1 (August 6, 2024): Bug fixes.
