"Ex-Bethesda Dev Predicts Fallout 3 Remaster Will Enhance Gun Combat"
With the successful release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the gaming community is buzzing with anticipation about which Bethesda game will receive the remaster treatment next. Many are speculating that Fallout 3 could be the next in line, especially after leaks surfaced in 2023. If Bethesda decides to remaster this beloved 2008 post-apocalyptic RPG, what improvements could we expect?
Bruce Nesmith, a key designer of Fallout 3, has highlighted the game's gun combat as an area ripe for enhancement. He believes that a remastered version would feature shooting mechanics more aligned with those seen in Fallout 4. Nesmith shared his insights with VideoGamer, explaining that the improvements made to gun combat in Fallout 4 were a direct response to the shortcomings identified in Fallout 3.
Nesmith emphasized that Fallout 3 was Bethesda's first foray into a shooter-style game, and while the effort was commendable, there's room for refinement. He anticipates that a Fallout 3 Remastered would incorporate the advanced gun combat mechanics developed for Fallout 4, given that Fallout 3's combat didn't quite meet the standards of other shooters at the time.
The success of Oblivion Remastered, crafted by the remake specialists at Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, sets a high bar for what fans can expect from a Fallout 3 Remastered. Oblivion Remastered boasts a host of enhancements, including 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, overhauled leveling systems, improved character creation, refined combat animations, and updated in-game menus. Additionally, it features new dialogue, a proper third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology. These changes have resonated well with fans, with some even suggesting that Oblivion Remastered could be considered a remake rather than just a remaster. Bethesda has, however, clarified their decision to pursue the remaster route.
Nesmith suggests that Fallout 3 Remastered might follow a similar path of comprehensive upgrades, drawing from the extensive improvements seen in Oblivion Remastered. He noted that Oblivion wasn't merely updated to match Skyrim from 2011 but was enhanced to surpass even the latest graphics updates of Skyrim. Nesmith praised Oblivion Remastered as being so advanced that it could almost be dubbed "Oblivion 2.0."
Amidst these exciting prospects, Bethesda remains busy with multiple projects, including The Elder Scrolls VI, potential expansions for Starfield, ongoing work on Fallout 76, and the Fallout TV series, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. Fans have much to look forward to in the coming years.
