Exclusive: Dead by Daylight Developers Detail an Authentic FNAF Experience in New Chapter.
Behaviour Interactive has offered a detailed preview of its newest Killer, Springtrap, explaining how his unique abilities will help Five Nights at Freddy's fans feel perfectly at home in Dead by Daylight when the chapter launches on June 17, 2025.
The studio shared exclusive new information about its latest horror crossover with IGN, ahead of the upcoming Chapter's public test build (PTB) today. This deep dive reveals initial details about Springtrap's powers, inspired by the classic Five Nights at Freddy's games, following his reveal earlier this month. It also explains how the lumbering animatronic will use a jump-scare mechanic entirely new to Behaviour's asymmetrical horror franchise.
The studio states this highly anticipated crossover Chapter is poised to be "one of the game's biggest to date." This is largely due to Springtrap, a stalking, axe-wielding yellow rabbit known in Dead by Daylight as The Animatronic. This menacing villain holds a complex place in Five Nights at Freddy's lore but has never been a playable character, giving Behaviour creative freedom to play with fan expectations.

Springtrap wields a giant pizza knife as his primary weapon and a fire axe for his special Power. The axe proves most useful, functioning as an area-of-effect tool that reveals Survivors to the Killer. A well-timed throw can lodge the axe in a Survivor's back, setting up a classic Five Nights at Freddy's-style jump scare when Springtrap retrieves it.
Adding to the authenticity, Behaviour has enlisted Five Nights at Freddy's movie star Matthew Lillard, who provided his voice and likeness for The Animatronic's Yellow Rabbit Legendary outfit. Other Springtrap cosmetics include the Legendary Glitchtrap outfit, plus the Very Rare Clown Springtrap and Toxic Springtrap outfits, alongside Freddy Fazbear t-shirts for Survivors.
Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Comes to Dead by Daylight
While Springtrap is the Killer Dead by Daylight fans have long requested, he's only half of what this new Chapter offers. Although there is no new Survivor, players must run for their lives on the all-new Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria map. This location is a ground-up recreation of the iconic pizza restaurant, twisted by The Entity.
Key areas of the new map include the Front Entrance, Kitchen, Janitor Room, and Dining Hall. Freddy's band, featuring Bonnie and Chica, also makes an appearance. Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria provides another haunting arena for players to navigate, complete with its own Easter eggs and jump scares. Its full secrets will be uncovered once players can explore it for themselves.

Fortunately, you don’t need to play on the new map to experience classic Five Nights at Freddy's gameplay. On any map, Survivors fleeing Springtrap will find newly spawned security doors, cameras, and a special office. These are more than nostalgic callbacks; they are functional tools Survivors can use to monitor Springtrap's movements, provided they have enough battery power.
If you're eager to try Springtrap but don't want to wait, the Five Nights at Freddy's Chapter PTB launches today at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET. For those awaiting the full Chapter, which includes quality-of-life improvements and more, the official launch arrives next month. For further details, you can read our interview with Behaviour Interactive, where we discussed creating the first-ever playable version of Springtrap and the team's future plans.
