Halo Infinite Update Boosts Xbox FPS: Relaunch Campaign Urged

May 17,25

The "Summer 2025 Update" for Halo Infinite is now live and will continue until June 10. This update brings a host of new features, including fresh playlists, the new Mutilator power weapon, sandbox updates, enhanced Forge tools, additional weapons available on the Weapon Bench, and much more. Players can also enjoy 50 new tiers, four new armor sets, bonus XP, and an extra challenge slot by upgrading to the Premium Operation Pass.

Despite these additions, opinions on the game's current state vary widely. Halo Infinite has undergone numerous changes over the past few years, including the rebranding of its developer from 343 Industries to Halo Studios. This shift followed a significant drop in player numbers post-launch, attributed to issues like insufficient content, flawed progression systems, controversial monetization practices, and the cancellation of a highly anticipated battle royale mode.

However, some fans argue that Halo Infinite has never been better. In a Reddit thread titled "Halo Infinite REALLY should do a 'relaunch' ad campaign. It's just not the same game as at launch. Not even close," a player shared their enthusiasm, stating: "I can't imagine anyone who likes Halo but hasn't given this game a chance, or haven't played since launch, would be disappointed coming back. And I can't imagine they or especially the general gaming public, realize how much has been added and changed."

The fan highlighted the vast array of new content introduced since their last play session, including three new guns, numerous new maps, multiple new firefight modes, extensive unlockable items, and more. They suggested that a new trailer showcasing these additions could significantly boost the game's reputation and player base. They also pointed out the game's improvements, such as new equipment, weapons, maps, game modes, armor pieces, a better free credit shop, expanded ranked playlists, and a robust career rank system. The fan praised the game's Forge mode, custom games, and the inclusion of AI in Forge, calling it the best game since Halo 3 and the finest work by 343 Industries to date.

Other players echoed these sentiments, with one saying, "I wholeheartedly agree, the game is easily the best game since [Halo 3] and the best 343 has produced. Just took a while to get here, but I never left, so it’s been fun to watch play out." Another shared their struggle to convince a friend who had written off the game early on to give it another try, emphasizing its current quality. A third fan boldly claimed, "Multiplayer-wise, it's the best Halo ever made."

In another Reddit thread, a user shared the iconic image from Halo Infinite's marketing campaign, prompting discussions about the game's evolution. One player expressed their renewed love for the series, stating, "I really love Infinite. Been playing since about halfway through Season 1. Revitalized my love for a series I stopped playing during Halo 4’s lifespan. Has the best Spartan customization and I also really like that different modes are constantly in rotation, custom games is fun, campaign is fun; unique but fun; music is a banger."

They further elaborated on their experience, mentioning their progress towards the Onyx rank and their goal to reach the maximum career rank. They praised the game's fluid gameplay, which they felt successfully blended classic Halo elements with modern enhancements, and expressed optimism about the game's future.

Another player described Halo Infinite as "the best arena shooter on Xbox right now," adding that it satisfied their cravings in a way that Call of Duty did not. However, not all feedback was positive; one less enthused fan remarked, "This image represents the last little bit of hope I had. I genuinely think Halo’s time is over, the people who understood how to make the magic happen are all scattered and gone."

Xbox Games Series Tier List

IGN's review of Halo Infinite's single-player campaign in 2021 awarded it a 9/10, stating, "Halo Infinite's single-player campaign is exactly what this series needed. It brings out the best in Master Chief's unique and satisfying combat style while leveraging old ideas to create memorable new moments. Its story falls short for both new and veteran players, but it was worth the six-year wait."

With Microsoft's multiplatform strategy in full effect, some Xbox fans are curious about whether Halo might eventually appear on PlayStation, following titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War. Microsoft's gaming chief, Phil Spencer, has indicated that there are no "red lines" in their first-party lineup, suggesting potential future expansions.
