Jacksepticeye's Soma Animated Series Canceled

Popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye disclosed spending an entire year developing an animated series based on Soma, only for the project to collapse unexpectedly - leaving him deeply disappointed.

In his recent video 'A Bad Month', Jacksepticeye (real name Seán William McLoughlin) confirmed both the existence and subsequent cancellation of the Soma-inspired animation project.

Soma, the critically acclaimed 2015 survival horror game from Frictional Games (creators of Amnesia), remains one of Jacksepticeye's all-time favorite titles, which he streamed extensively upon release.

The emotional video addressed Jacksepticeye's creative struggles amid multiple canceled or stalled projects, eventually revealing his abandoned Soma adaptation - something he'd been particularly excited to share with fans.

"I had this massive creative endeavor I was truly passionate about," he explained cautiously. "While I'm unsure about disclosure permissions, I'll mention it anyway - if inappropriate, this segment simply won't appear."

"I envisioned creating a Soma animated series because it ranks among my top five, maybe top ten favorite games ever made. Its narrative remains unparalleled in gaming history."

"The enthusiasm was real - we spent nearly a year negotiating with developers, preparing for full production. I desperately wanted to announce it, discuss it passionately, and fully immerse myself in sharing this project."

"I initially planned to stream the complete game in one session but decided to wait until we could officially reveal the animation project - hence the delay."

Jacksepticeye described how the promising project suddenly collapsed when an undisclosed party demanded "a different creative direction", though he intentionally withheld details due to lingering frustration.

"We achieved significant progress before everything inexplicably fell apart," he shared.

"I'm avoiding specifics because the circumstances remain painful. Essentially, it became about diverging creative visions - but the impact devastated me."

While Jacksepticeye declined to name other involved parties, IGN has reached out to Frictional Games for comment.

This cancellation completely disrupted Jacksepticeye's carefully laid plans for 2025.

"I structured my entire year around this project, anticipating reduced uploads while dedicating all energy to production. The trade-off would've been showcasing something extraordinary we could collectively celebrate - until everything collapsed."

"Now my annual blueprint lies in ruins. Priorities shifted overnight - I've spent weeks in constant meetings reassessing direction. Taking time off only to achieve nothing remains incredibly disheartening."

Post-Soma, Frictional released Amnesia: Rebirth (2020) and Amnesia: The Bunker (2023). Following The Bunker's launch, Creative Director Thomas Grip indicated plans to reduce horror elements, focusing instead on broader emotional experiences.

"While maintaining horror elements, we prioritize immersive fantasies," Grip explained.

"Whether portraying a WWI soldier trapped underground or an ocean-floor confined robot, emotional resonance matters most."

"Horror naturally emphasizes emotion - gaming's strong suit. But we're exploring themes beyond mere frights."
