Lost Soul Aside on Steam Inaccessible for 130+ Countries Due to Sony Restrictions
Lost Soul Aside's Steam release faces significant geographical limitations, impacting accessibility for over 130 countries. This region lock, attributed to Sony's restrictions, has sparked considerable player frustration and impacted sales. This article delves into the controversy surrounding the region lock and recent interviews with the game's director.
Lost Soul Aside's Region Lock Frustrates Gamers
UltiZero Games' Lost Soul Aside launch is marred by a region lock, a consequence of Sony's ongoing limitations on PlayStation-published game availability. SteamDB data reveals the game's unavailability in over 130 countries lacking PlayStation Network (PSN) support.
While PSN account ownership isn't mandatory for Lost Soul Aside, the region lock prevents the game's appearance on Steam in PSN-unsupported regions. Players wishing to access the game must create a Steam account in a PSN-supported country, a workaround deemed unacceptable by many. This decision is particularly perplexing given PlayStation's recent removal of PSN requirements for PC titles. The resulting backlash on social media is significant, with many gamers deciding against purchasing due to this restriction.
Lost Soul Aside: A Blend of Fantasy and Realism
Since its 2016 announcement, Lost Soul Aside has maintained its unique blend of fantasy and realistic visuals. UltiZero Games CEO Yang Bing discussed the game's artistic direction in a February 20, 2025 IGN interview.
Bing confirmed the consistent artistic vision since the 2016 promotional video, including the fast-paced, stylish combat. He stated, "This is something we've consistently pursued. Naturally, we've been influenced by other excellent works during development, shaping our approach. The initial trailer has evolved into a more refined and polished product."
Bing previously cited Final Fantasy 15 as an influence, noting the protagonist Kaser's design as a prime example of the game's blend of cartoonish and realistic elements.
Influences from Gaming Giants: Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, and More
Lost Soul Aside draws inspiration from several popular Japanese titles, including Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry. Yang Bing elaborated on these influences in a February 20, 2025 Famitsu interview.
He highlighted Final Fantasy's impact on Kaser's design, stating, "We aimed to combine realistic and fantasy elements in his clothing, much like in Final Fantasy. The clothing designs were then meticulously recreated in-game to enhance the character's believability and realism."
The fast-paced, stylish combat, on the other hand, reflects the influence of Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry. Yang explained, "We've refined the combat system to maintain speed while adding depth. Players can develop their own combat style, and even those less skilled with complex combos can achieve high performance."
Lost Soul Aside launches May 30, 2025 on PlayStation 5 and PC. For the latest updates, refer to our related articles.
