Lies of P DLC to Revamp Difficulty, Promises Devs
Lies of P developer Neowiz unveiled its DLC Overture during Summer Game Fest, bringing fresh locations, enemies, bosses, characters, weapons—and the highly debated addition of two easier difficulty settings. These options are about to become even more accessible as the team prepares further "difficulty reductions." As a challenging "Soulslike" title, Lies of P presents formidable combat, particularly for newcomers drawn to its gothic narrative and setting. Director Jiwon Choi initially held that Soulslike games shouldn't include difficulty options, launching the base game without them. However, the studio reconsidered, stating: “We aimed to make the experience accessible to a broader audience." Players tackling the Overture DLC on its original "Legendary Stalker" setting report unprecedented challenges. The polarized response—ranging from praise to frustration—prompted the Lies of P subreddit to consolidate discussions into a single megathread to manage feedback overflow. Steam reviews mirror this divide, with one player noting: "At level 300, basic enemies shouldn't eliminate me in two hits—especially when combat scenarios force engagement with multiple foes simultaneously. The issue compounds when any single attack depletes half your health bar." Through a newly released Lies of P Director's Letter, Neowiz confirms forthcoming gameplay adjustments. "We're meticulously evaluating all feedback, prioritizing combat refinements," Choi stated (via Eurogamer). "Certain elements didn't align with our vision, prompting comprehensive review—including difficulty scaling. However, as combat defines Lies of P's core identity, implementing changes demands extensive testing." Notably, the studio hasn't specified a timeline for these updates. Our review team praised Lies of P with an 8/10 score, matching our rating for Overture. "While treading familiar ground, Lies of P: Overture meaningfully expands an already outstanding experience," we noted in our coverage.
