Phantom Blade Zero Development Updates
Phantom Blade Zero Not A Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options
Phantom Blade Zero breaks away from the Soulslike genre by offering four distinct difficulty levels: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. This move differentiates it from the notoriously challenging Soulslike games, which typically do not provide such options. Game Director Soulframe clarified this distinction via an official tweet post-Summer Game Fest 2024, emphasizing that the team's goal was never to create another Soulslike. Instead, they aim to deliver "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating."
Despite initial comparisons due to its dark-themed world and boss fights, Soulframe confirmed that while the game draws inspiration from Soulslike titles in terms of multi-layered maps and exploration, "the similarities stop there." He described Phantom Blade Zero as a blend of "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," merging intense hack-and-slash action with expansive area exploration.
Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More
Phantom Blade Zero is set to offer a rich gameplay experience, featuring over 30 primary weapons and 20 secondary weapons, each with unique effects and gameplay styles. Players can expect a main story playthrough lasting 20-30 hours, supplemented by an additional 20-30 hours of side content, ensuring a comprehensive gaming experience.
Boss battles will feature at least two phases, with the innovative mechanic allowing players to restart from the second phase if they fail, saving them from repeating the initial phase. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," challenges players to fight previously defeated bosses, unlocking new hidden bosses and further extending the game's replayability.
Additionally, the game includes a mechanic that influences its ending, though details on how this will work and the number of possible endings remain undisclosed.
