Roblox player numbers have reached a new record, fueled by a weekend event in which the platform’s two most popular games, Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot, competed in an “admin war” to attract the highest number of players.

According to player data tracked by Fortnite.gg, Roblox peaked at an astonishing 47 million players on Saturday, August 23, as creators of Grow a Garden and the newer title Steal a Brainrot launched a coordinated effort to draw in maximum player participation.

This event set a new all-time high for Roblox, following a summer of sustained record-breaking engagement, during which the platform regularly saw weekend player peaks around 30 million.

In contrast, the entire Steam platform recorded a peak of 37.9 million online accounts on the same day, with 11.2 million actively in-game (per SteamDB). Fortnite, meanwhile, reached a daily peak of 1.6 million players. Steam had previously surpassed 40 million online accounts earlier this year, shortly after the release of Monster Hunter Wilds.

On August 23, Grow a Garden hit a peak of 22 million players, while Steal a Brainrot attracted 15 million. The viral sensation Grow a Garden lets players buy and cultivate plants—including rare varieties available only for limited periods—driving massive spikes as users rush to log in. Steal a Brainrot challenges players to collect Pokémon-like creatures and claim them from rivals.

Roblox’s rising popularity comes alongside ongoing efforts by the platform to enhance player safety, following a series of controversies involving its predominantly young audience. Last month, Roblox introduced a new age estimation tool to help verify teen users and enabled them to designate “trusted connections” for filtered, unrestricted chat on the platform.
