Monster Hunter Wilds PC port plagued by tech issues

Capcom's latest release is breaking online records, currently ranking sixth among Steam's most-played games. Yet players continue to criticize its poor Steam rating due to severe technical issues. Digital Foundry's in-depth PC performance analysis confirms these problems, delivering disappointing results.

Their testing reveals multiple performance flaws. Shader pre-compilation lasts approximately 9 minutes on a Ryzen 9 9800X3D system and exceeds 30 minutes on Ryzen 5 3600 hardware. Texture quality disappoints even at High settings. With an RTX 4060 at 1440p resolution (High settings, DLSS Balanced), noticeable frame time spikes occur. Surprisingly, even the stronger RTX 4070 with 12GB VRAM displays poor texture rendering.

For 8GB GPUs, reducing texture quality to Medium helps minimize stuttering and frame spikes. However, visual fidelity remains problematic regardless. While slower camera movement reduces these issues, fast panning still causes visible performance dips. Crucially, frame time inconsistencies persist even with reduced texture quality.

Digital Foundry's Alex Battaglia identifies data streaming as the core issue, forcing excessive GPU decompression workloads. This particularly impacts budget graphics cards, causing severe frame time spikes. He discourages 8GB GPU owners from playing and expresses reservations about higher-end cards like the RTX 4070.

Intel GPUs show particularly poor performance—the Arc A770 barely achieves 15-20 fps with missing textures and visual glitches. While premium systems show some improvement, gameplay remains inconsistent. Currently, optimizing settings without major visual sacrifices proves nearly impossible.
