Bloodborne Fans Mark 10th Anniversary, Urge Sony for Yharnam Revival

Aug 03,25

Bloodborne celebrates its 10th anniversary today, with fans hosting another vibrant Return to Yharnam community event.

FromSoftware’s PlayStation 4 gem, released on March 24, 2015, solidified the Japanese studio’s reputation as a gaming titan. It earned widespread critical and commercial success, sparking expectations for a sequel akin to the Dark Souls series.

Yet, a decade later, there’s been no progress. Why hasn’t Sony delivered a next-gen remaster, a sequel, or even a 60fps update for Bloodborne? Fans have pleaded for more, but Sony’s silence remains one of gaming’s most baffling mysteries.

Earlier this year, former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida offered some insight. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, he clarified that his thoughts were personal speculation, not insider knowledge from Sony’s inner workings.

“Bloodborne is the most requested title,” Yoshida noted. “People wonder why we haven’t seen an update or remaster. It seems straightforward, doesn’t it? Sony’s done plenty of remasters, so it’s frustrating for some.”

“My personal theory,” he continued, “is that Hidetaka Miyazaki, who adores Bloodborne, is deeply invested in it. He’s incredibly busy and successful, so he may not have time to revisit it himself and might not want others to handle it. I think the PlayStation team respects his stance. That’s just my guess—no confidential details here.”

Miyazaki, FromSoftware’s visionary leader, has achieved global acclaim with the Dark Souls series and, more recently, Elden Ring, a blockbuster hit that elevated the studio’s profile. A multiplayer spin-off for Elden Ring is slated for release this year.

Miyazaki’s packed schedule is no secret. Since Bloodborne’s 2015 debut, he helmed Dark Souls 3, 2019’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for Activision, and Elden Ring for Bandai Namco. His next project remains undisclosed.

In interviews, Miyazaki sidesteps Bloodborne questions, noting that FromSoftware doesn’t own the IP. Still, last February, he acknowledged the game could shine on modern hardware.

Fan-made mods have attempted to enhance the PS4 Bloodborne experience, but Sony has cracked down. In January, modder Lance McDonald shared that Sony Interactive Entertainment issued a takedown notice for his 60fps patch, four years after its release.

A week later, Lilith Walther, creator of Nightmare Kart (formerly Bloodborne Kart) and the striking Bloodborne PSX demake, reported a copyright claim on an old YouTube video of the demake.

Recently, tech enthusiasts at Digital Foundry showcased a video highlighting a “breakthrough in PS4 emulation” via ShadPS4, enabling Bloodborne to run at 60fps on PC from start to finish. Could this have prompted Sony’s stern response? IGN reached out to Sony for comment but received no reply.

With little official news, Bloodborne fans are taking matters into their own hands. Today’s Return to Yharnam event, coinciding with the game’s 10th anniversary, encourages players to create new characters, summon random co-op partners and invaders, and leave in-game messages to mark their participation in this community-driven celebration.

For now, these grassroots efforts may be the only way fans can keep the spirit of Bloodborne alive.
