Xbox Game Studios' 343 Industries Rebrands to Halo Studios
Halo Studios Embarks on a New Era of Halo Game Development
Microsoft-owned Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) announced multiple Halo game projects are underway. This announcement marks a significant shift, ushering in a new chapter for the franchise."Halo's history has two distinct phases: Bungie and 343 Industries," stated Studio Head Pierre Hintze. "Now, we see a demand for more. We're not just improving development efficiency; we're reimagining how we create Halo games."
The studio revealed its transition to Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 (UE5), renowned for its high-fidelity graphics and realistic physics. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted, "Epic is honored that Halo Studios chose our tools for their future endeavors!"
Halo's leadership detailed their new approach. Hintze explained, "We previously overemphasized supporting Halo Infinite. UE5 allows us to create higher-quality Halo games with a singular focus: making the best possible Halo experiences."
COO Elizabeth Van Wyck emphasized player feedback: "Success hinges on creating games players want. This new structure empowers game developers to make key decisions, and we're actively seeking broader player input."
Studio Art Director Chris Matthew highlighted UE5's advantages: "Parts of our existing engine are nearly 25 years old. Unreal Engine offers capabilities unavailable to us, saving significant time and resources."
The move to UE5 also streamlines updates and content delivery. Van Wyck noted, "It's not just about development time, but also about updating the game and quickly responding to player feedback." Halo Studios has begun recruiting for these new projects.
