Marvel Rivals Patch Addresses Gameplay Issue
Marvel Rivals Addresses Low FPS Damage Issue Affecting Several Heroes
Marvel Rivals players experiencing reduced damage output at lower frame rates (FPS) can breathe a sigh of relief. The developers have acknowledged a bug impacting damage calculations, particularly affecting heroes like Dr. Strange and Wolverine, when the game runs at 30 FPS. This issue, impacting a subset of heroes including Magik, Star-Lord, and Venom, is currently under active development and a fix is underway.
Launched in early December 2025, Marvel Rivals quickly gained popularity in the hero shooter genre, boasting an 80% player approval rating on Steam (over 132,000 reviews). While initial concerns regarding hero balance existed, the recent low FPS damage bug has become a focal point for the development team.
Community reports highlighted the discrepancy in damage dealt at lower FPS compared to higher frame rates (60/120 FPS). A community manager's post on the official Discord server confirmed the problem, noting movement and damage inconsistencies at lower frame rates. While a precise fix date isn't available, the upcoming Season 1 launch (January 11th) is expected to include a solution or at least significant mitigation of the problem.
The Root of the Problem: Client-Side Prediction
The issue appears to stem from the game's client-side prediction mechanism – a common programming technique designed to minimize perceived lag. However, in this instance, it's causing inaccurate damage calculations at lower FPS.
While the full list of affected heroes and abilities remains unconfirmed, Wolverine's Feral Leap and Savage Claw abilities were specifically mentioned. The community manager noted that the damage reduction is more apparent when testing against stationary targets. Should the Season 1 update not fully resolve the issue, a subsequent patch is planned. The team is committed to ensuring a fair and balanced gameplay experience for all players regardless of their system's capabilities.
