Monster Hunter Wilds Explains Cooking System
Enhanced Culinary Realism in Monster Hunter Wilds: A Feast for the Eyes
Monster Hunter Wilds is set to redefine in-game food presentation, prioritizing appetizing visuals through a blend of realism and stylized exaggeration. This approach, spearheaded by executive director/art director Kaname Fujioka and director Yuya Tokuda, aims to surpass mere realism, focusing instead on what truly makes food look delicious. Inspiration is drawn from anime and commercials, employing techniques like dynamic lighting and exaggerated food modeling to achieve this goal.
The game boasts a diverse culinary selection, ranging from meat and fish to vegetable dishes. The developers have meticulously crafted each dish to appear incredibly savory, exceeding the bounds of photographic realism. This commitment to visual appeal builds upon the franchise's long-standing tradition of in-game cooking, which has evolved significantly since its inception in 2004. While Monster Hunter World (2018) introduced a greater emphasis on realistic dining, Wilds takes this to a new level.
A Camping Culinary Experience:
Unlike previous installments, Monster Hunter Wilds allows players to dine in any location, embracing a campfire cooking aesthetic rather than a formal restaurant setting. This immersive approach is exemplified by a captivating preview showcasing an exquisitely rendered cheese pull. Even simpler dishes, such as roasted cabbage (a particular challenge for Fujioka), are elevated through realistic visual effects, like the cabbage puffing up as the lid is lifted. A video demonstrates this, further enhancing the visual appeal with a roasted egg topping.
A Secret Meat Masterpiece:
Director Tokuda, a self-proclaimed meat enthusiast, hints at a secret "extravagant" meat dish, adding an element of surprise and anticipation. The overall focus on a wide variety of dishes, coupled with expressive character animations during mealtimes, aims to create a heightened sense of culinary satisfaction within the game's cooking sequences. The game launches February 28, 2025.
