inZOI’s Karma System Allows for Literal Ghost Towns
In inZOI, the choices you make have real-world consequences. Poor karma can lead to literal ghost towns, a chilling mechanic that adds a unique layer of depth to this upcoming life simulation game.
inZOI Cities Can Become Ghost Towns
A City's Fate Hinges on the Karma of its Citizens
inZOI introduces a compelling karma system where every action your Zoi (in-game character) takes affects their karma score. Death brings a judgment: low karma results in a ghostly existence, requiring karmic redemption before rebirth. But here's the catch – a city overrun by ghosts faces a grim fate. Director Hyungjun Kim explains, "If too many ghosts appear, new Zois cannot be born, nor can families be created." This dynamic creates a compelling gameplay loop, requiring players to actively manage the moral compass of their city's inhabitants to prevent societal collapse.
Kim clarifies that the system isn't about strict good vs. evil. "Life isn't simply good or bad; every life has its own meaning and value." The karma system encourages players to explore diverse narratives and the complexities of life itself.
A Different Kind of Life Sim, Inspired by The Sims' Legacy
While inZOI is poised to be a significant contender in the life simulation genre, Director Kim emphasizes it's not a direct competitor to The Sims. He expresses deep respect for the franchise's legacy, acknowledging the immense challenge of capturing the multifaceted nature of life in a game. Instead, inZOI aims to offer a distinct experience. Kim highlights the game's realistic visuals (powered by Unreal Engine 5), in-depth customization, and AI-driven creative tools as key differentiators. The goal is to empower players to craft unique and meaningful lives within the game's world.
