Monster Hunter Wilds is Capcom's ambitious next chapter, transforming the series' iconic hunts into a vibrant, interconnected world with a dynamic, real-time ecosystem.
In a recent Summer Game Fest interview, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, executive director Kaname Fujioka, and director Yuya Tokuda discussed the game's revolutionary design. They highlighted the seamless gameplay and immersive environment that responds directly to player actions.
Players once again become hunters in an uncharted territory, encountering new creatures and resources. However, the Summer Game Fest demo showcased a significant departure from the series' traditional mission structure. Wilds presents a sprawling open world, allowing for unrestricted exploration, hunting, and environmental interaction.
"Seamlessness is a core principle of Monster Hunter Wilds," Fujioka explained. "We aimed to create detailed, immersive ecosystems demanding a seamless world teeming with challenging monsters to hunt freely."
A Dynamic World Unlike Any Other
The demo featured desert villages, expansive biomes, diverse monsters, and NPC hunters. This new approach grants players unparalleled freedom in target selection and actions, eliminating timed missions for a more fluid hunting experience. Fujioka emphasized the importance of world interaction: "We focused on interactions like monster packs pursuing prey and their clashes with human hunters. These characters have 24-hour behavior cycles, creating a more dynamic and organic feel."
Monster Hunter Wilds also boasts real-time weather and fluctuating monster populations. Director Yuya Tokuda attributed this dynamic world to new technological advancements: "Creating a massive, evolving ecosystem with numerous monsters and interactive characters was a significant challenge. Simultaneous environmental changes are now possible – something previously unattainable."
Monster Hunter World's success provided invaluable lessons for the development of Wilds. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto highlighted the importance of a global perspective: "We approached Monster Hunter World with a global mindset, focusing on simultaneous worldwide release and comprehensive localization. This global approach helped us consider players unfamiliar with the series and how to draw them in."
