Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has officially announced the development of several remakes for the beloved Assassin’s Creed series. In a recent interview published on the Ubisoft website, Guillemot expressed enthusiasm about revisiting and modernizing the franchise's classic entries. "Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich," he stated. While he did not disclose which specific titles are being remade, fans are eagerly anticipating the rejuvenation of their favorite classics.

Guillemot also emphasized that the future of Assassin’s Creed will feature a "variety of experiences." He clarified that the goal is to release Assassin’s Creed games more regularly, yet ensure that each title offers a unique experience. "There will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year," he explained.

Upcoming projects like Assassin’s Creed Hexe, set in 16th-century Europe and slated for a 2026 release, and the mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade, expected in 2025, are poised to deliver fresh and distinctive gameplay. Additionally, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan, is scheduled for release on November 15, 2024.

Ubisoft has a track record of enhancing its older titles through remasters, such as Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection in 2016 and Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered in 2018. Recent rumors suggested a potential remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, although Ubisoft has not yet confirmed this.

In the same interview, Guillemot discussed the role of evolving technology in game development. He highlighted the dynamic weather system in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which will influence gameplay mechanics, such as ponds freezing over. He also praised the significant visual upgrades in the upcoming title. Furthermore, Guillemot reiterated his belief in the transformative potential of generative AI. "Technology is evolving at such a pace that there are limitless possibilities for evolution," he noted. "In Assassin's Creed Shadows, for example, we have a weather system that will affect its gameplay; ponds that were once swimmable might freeze, for instance."

"Visually, we're also seeing a big step forward for the series. I have also been very vocal about the potential I see in generative AI and how it can enrich NPCs to be more intelligent, more interactive," he added. "This could potentially extend to animals in the world, to the world itself. There is still so much we can do to enrich these open worlds to be even more dynamic."
