Swarm Faction Details Unveiled by Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Developers

Following the teaser reveal of the Swarm faction, the developers of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era from Unfrozen Studio have provided a deeper dive into this intriguing castle. They've discussed their inspirations, the transformation from "Inferno" to "Swarm," and the unfolding events on the continent of Jadame.

The Swarm faction stands out with its unique ability to adapt to its enemies. The power of some creatures within the Swarm depends on the level difference between themselves and their opponents, with greater disparities leading to increased damage output. Other creatures, such as mantises, have the flexibility to select from three different abilities each round. Moreover, creatures like worms and locusts possess the ability to consume corpses, which not only heals them but also enhances their strength—a skill that heroes within the game can also acquire.

In Olden Era, the traditional role of the demonic threat has been reimagined with an insectoid race, which was only briefly mentioned in Might & Magic 8. The developers have crafted the Swarm faction with a nod to the original lore while introducing elements of body horror and occultism. This faction transcends a mere insect colony, evolving into a cult that worships a singular ruler. Each member of the Swarm is part of a collective consciousness, devoted entirely to executing their master's commands.

A key gameplay feature of the Swarm is its "mono-faction" mechanic. Players who opt to use only Swarm units will experience enhanced synergy among their troops. Another notable feature is the ability of Swarm units to summon cocoons, with the cocoon's health being contingent on the army's overall size. The larvae that hatch from these cocoons join the fray as temporary units, enabling players to dynamically respond to different combat scenarios.

The developers emphasized the Swarm’s distinctive playstyle, where creatures can gain health and power by devouring corpses. Additionally, their abilities dynamically adjust based on the strength of their foes. This strategy positions the Swarm as an aggressive faction, excelling in direct confrontations and offering players a novel approach to combat.
