Monster Hunter Wilds GPU Requirements May Lower as Capcom Tries to Optimize Game
Capcom is actively working to enhance Monster Hunter Wilds' performance before its official launch, with a particular focus on reducing the game's demanding GPU requirements for PC players.
Capcom Improves Monster Hunter Wilds' Performance Ahead of Launch
Lowering GPU Requirements for PC
As announced on the game's German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025, Capcom is diligently optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds. A recent video showcased smoother gameplay on PS5, highlighting an updated Prioritize Framerate mode that boosts fps at the cost of some graphical detail. This same optimization effort is being applied to the PC version, with a key goal of lowering the recommended GPU requirements. The Twitter (X) post explicitly stated their intention to improve performance and explore ways to reduce the necessary GPU power.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Successful optimization could significantly broaden the game's accessibility, allowing players with lower-end or mid-range GPUs to enjoy the hunt. Furthermore, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help players determine optimal settings and assess their PC's compatibility. This proactive step should alleviate concerns about needing expensive hardware upgrades. For more in-depth information on Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our dedicated article.
Addressing Issues from the First Open Beta
The initial open beta test, conducted in October and November 2024, revealed performance issues that caused considerable player frustration. Steam users reported low-poly character models and monsters, leading to a visual experience described as sub-par. In addition to the graphical concerns, frame rate drops and other performance problems were widely reported, even on high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often came at the expense of visual fidelity.
Capcom acknowledged these problems on November 1, 2024, promising a fix for afterimage noise in the full release and assuring players that the final game would be significantly improved over the beta. This improvement is expected to be evident in Open Beta Test 2, featuring the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and a new, currently unannounced monster. This second beta will run from February 7-10 and 14-17 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. However, the inclusion of the recent performance updates in this second beta remains unconfirmed.
